📘 Automatic Base Switching and Roaming – Yealink W70B & Compatible Handsets #
Applies to: W79P · W76P · W73P · W60P · W53P · W57R
Base Supported: W70B (Tested) and Multi-Cell Systems like the W80DM/W90DM
📡 Overview #
Yealink cordless handsets can automatically switch between multiple W70B base stations using the BestBase feature. This improves coverage in offices or buildings with multiple bases installed.
⚠️ Note: True seamless handover (while in a call) is only supported on multi-cell systems (W80DM/W90DM). W70B roaming will switch bases automatically when idle and moving close to the base.
✅ Requirements #
To enable roaming between W70B bases, two conditions must be met:
1. Register the Handset to All Bases #
- Each handset can register to up to 4 W70B bases.
- Register the handset individually to each base.
2. Enable the “BestBase” Option #
This tells the handset to automatically select the base with the strongest signal.
🔧 How to Enable BestBase #
Follow these steps on any supported Yealink cordless handset:
- Press OK to open the main menu.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Registration.
- Tap Select Base.
- Choose BestBase.
- Press Select to apply.
Once enabled, the handset automatically scans and switches to the base with the best signal.
🏗️ How Roaming Works #
- The handset monitors nearby registered bases.
- When signal strength drops, it switches to a stronger base.
- If a base loses connectivity, the handset automatically selects another available base.
📌 Reminder: W70B roaming works for coverage improvement but does not support seamless in-call handoff like W80DM/W90DM.
📝 Additional Notes #
- Base placement significantly affects roaming performance.
- You can verify current base connection via the handset’s Base menu.
- If multiple bases use the same SIP account, incoming/outgoing calls will continue normally after base switching.
